HISTORY OF THE NEWSPAPER
The Daily Tribune was established or founded by Ms. Ninez Cacho-Olivares in November 1999. She decided to establish her own daily after observing that the other newspapers already existing were too conventional, traditional, sensational, boring in content, interpretative and biased.
She wanted to offer her own kind of paper that would offer non-interpretative, unbiased, exciting, fresh and contemporary; a newspaper that would cater to the young and to the old, known for its free but responsible journalism.
The Commentary Page would provide space for biases, for opinions and views regarding certain issues, mainly political and social.
The Lifestyle Section would look more like a magazine, with non-conventional and varying themes.
Business stories would be written in simpler terms, for easier understanding.
The paper, all in all, would be attractive, and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
One by one, Ms. Ninez Cacho-Olivares gathered the people she needed in order to get this newspaper started.
The Tribune Publishing, Co., Inc. officially began operating on February 1, 2000, with a maiden issue that consisted of 24 pages with incisive reports, insightful opinions and colorful articles. It was given approval and was widely accepted by the common readers and the critics.
The Daily Tribune at present is an opposition paper, catering largely to Classes A, B, C, the Chinese population, and most especially, to members of the opposition.
