The editor-in-chief of The World News newspaper is Wu Yong-Chuan. The newspaper does not have any other editors because they have a different system, which has editors for each of the sections (five to eight sections) found in their newspaper. These sections would consist of one editor, translators and reporters. The editors of the different sections would choose the most important news suitable in their respected division. If the news is from the Chinese agency, then they would just copy-paste it; but if the news came from other agencies, which usually write in English, then they would still have to bring it to their translator to convert it to Chinese. Once this is done, the editor would approve it and have the news typed (in Chinese), and the editor would have to proofread it after. The editor would also have to draft a layout, which would be submitted to the layout editor, who prints the dummy that would be approved by the editor.
World News has only nine reporters out of the 200 employees it has. In these 200 employees, two-thirds are part-time, while one-third are full-time. The newspaper’s correspondents, which are only three to four, are based in

World News was launched in June 1, 1981 by Lucio Tan, together with a Filipino-Chinese Association as a partner. Back then, the general manager was Shi Tian-Lu. Now, it’s Wang Ming-Yuan who serves as the general manager. From the ownership of Lucio Tan, it was passed on to another management. The person who is now responsible for the newspaper company is Chen Hua-Yu. World News was launched as a community newspaper. It started as a legitimate source of information, never an underground one.
World News has a subscriber base of more than 107,000 and a pass-on readership of 6 per copy everyday. The number of copies printed by World News doesn’t vary on weekdays and weekends. It has a worldwide and overseas circulation of over 107,000 daily – 65,195 in Metro Manila, 38,005 in provinces, and 4,397 in the foreign areas (Hong Kong/China).

About 10 years ago, when computers were not yet widely used, World News had about 10-20 hired typists. And when computers were started to be used by many, the typists decreased to a number of about 5-6 persons. These typists were paid with the rate of 30 pesos for 1,000 words.
They used electronic machines to layout the pages of their newspaper. Stripping is one of the things which World News doesn’t accept, along with bleeds, reductions, and overlays.

For the news which are rarely subjected to changes like showbiz and business news, these are printed at around 1pm. They are the first ones to be printed. For the important sections, specifically the local news, these news are needed to be freshly served. Because these news are subject to changes, they are printed at around 3 in the morning. World News is a newspaper with its own fully computerized system for both black & white and color printing facilities, with full color pages in four sections.

Payments are made 60 days after publication by the advertising agencies. When you are a direct advertiser, you have to pay upon reservation. 15% of the rate is the standard agency commission to accredited advertising agencies recognized by the United Print Media Group (UPMG).
